Lanesboro Triathlon Club are committed to promoting sport in young people and welcome all levels of junior triathletes from beginner to experienced. All children are encouraged to reach their individual potential and most of all have fun doing it! We strive to foster a culture of health, safety and wellbeing while taking part in the disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.
The minimum age for joining LTC Juniors is 8 years and we would like the young triathlete to be able to swim at least 1 length of a 25m pool.
The training for the LTC Juniors includes one pool-based swimming session each week, over winter and spring. When the weather is appropriate, we also run open water swim training in the beautiful waters of the Shannon in Lanesboro. Both under the guidance of a trained instructor(s).
When the weather improves (usually after Easter) the Club organises cycling and run sessions at the weekend. For the cycling sessions, it is important that the kid’s bikes are in good working order with fully inflated tyres and two working brakes. Gears are useful but not essential – particularly for the younger members. All cyclists must wear a helmet – they will not be allowed to ride with the Club without one.

Safeguarding
As a Club affiliated with Triathlon Ireland, LTC follows the guidelines and procedures that Triathlon Ireland has put in place for the Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults participating in the sport of Triathlon.
Safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults is the primary priority for Triathlon Ireland and LTC. It is a crucial function in providing fun, safe and fair opportunities for all who participate in Triathlon and ensuring the safeguarding of children participating in the sport.
Triathlon Ireland is guided by Sport Ireland in the Republic of Ireland when dealing with matters concerning the protection and safeguarding of children. Triathlon Ireland is in regular contact with Sport Ireland via a child protection officer’s network, and it is these bodies that keep Triathlon Ireland regularly informed with what is required under law, and best practice in the area of safeguarding children in sport.
All LTC Junior coaches and volunteers go through the standard vetting procedure and safeguarding training as required by law.
